Black Gold (Snake Plant)
The Black Gold type of Snake Plant is a straight leaved type of Snake plant featuring yellow-tipped leaves, and dark green centers on the leaves can appear to be black striations. Most types of Snake Plants are very easy to start new plants because you can clip an adult leaf from your plant, then start it rooting in either water or soil. When it comes to pruning, you really don’t need to concern yourself with pruning a healthy type of Snake Plant, because they grow so slowly.
However, if you have any brown leaves or parts of your Snake Plant that look dead from overwatering or from a lack of sunlight, you should clip the brown leaves and toss them away. Snake Plants don’t care to have their roots disturbed, so unless you can see some root growth coming out of the bottom of the pot, or out of the top of the soil, you shouldn’t repot your Snake Plant.
It typically only needs to be repotted every three or four years. When you do so, be prepared for your Snake Plant to go into shock. This can last for up to two weeks, so don’t give up on your plant within the initial two weeks after repotting. Just care for your plant as you did when it was first rooting, and it will be fine.
